A fast-closing valve for use in virtually dust-free environments

An explosion involves not only the immediate process item, but can also propagate to the rest of the process. This propagation can be avoided if the affected process item is quickly isolated (compartmentation), thus limiting the consequences of the explosion to the process item in which it occurred.

If the airflow is only minimally charged with dust, as in the case of the clean air outlet on filters, a fast closing valve is the ideal way to achieve isolation.

Passive and automatic fast-closing valve,
closed by the pressure wave

In the case of an explosion, the VENTEX valve automatically quickly closes due to the pressure wave preceding the flame jet. The valve also resists explosion pressure and once closed, prevents flame propagation.

VENTEX advantages:

  • Suitable for airflow, gas or for hybrid mixtures.
  • Pressure loss remains minimal due to internal aerodynamic profile and smooth internal surface.
  • No contamination of the product in the case of triggering.
  • After manual unlocking of the valve and a thorough visual inspection, the process can be quickly restarted.

The VENTEX fast closing valve is an ATEX 'safety system' for isolation. Its efficient functioning as a safety system requires correct positioning and mounting on the process equipment.

Functioning of the VENTEX fast-closing valve

Fast closing, for your protection

The VENTEX valve functions in a very simple way: inside the valve housing, a closing element in the form of a flattened sphere is located on a horizontal rod on which it can travel axially. This flattened sphere is pressed against a gasket by the force of the pressure wave. The gasket is kept in the closed position by a mechanical lock, keeping the affected equipment safely isolated.

Slow reopening

The valve is unlocked by hand. The flattened sphere returns to its original position and the VENTEX valve is again ready for use.

Position indication

The valve has its own mechanical position indicator. An electronic indicator is available as an option.

VENTEX fast-closing valve: virtually maintenance free

The VENTEX valve is virtually maintenance free. Inspection and re-opening after triggering can be performed by the customer. A maintenance contract is not required.

Various types of fast-closing valves

The fast closing VENTEX valve is available in various types and options, making it suitable to a variety of applications.

Various process conditions

  • Suitable for powders, gases and hybrid mixtures
  • Can be used for processes under vacuum and under overpressure
  • The internal moving parts and the flattened sphere are made of stainless steel
  • Different gaskets are available for high temperature applications, food products, hygienic environments and with FDA approval
  • Available in “normally open” or “normally closed” versions (as a non-return valve)

Various environmental and installation conditions

  • Flanges DIN or ANSI
  • External part of the valve painted or in stainless steel
  • Installation in both horizontal and vertical positions

Intended use

This product is an ATEX certified ‘safety system’. Consequently, any application must be based on the instructions contained in the ATEX certificate, the product specifications and the user manual.

The fast closing VENTEX valve qualifies for installation in Ex zone 1, 2, 21, 22. The internal part is suited for zones 0 and 20.
