Constantly checking the earthing, for constant peace of mind

It is not so difficult to regularly check the earthing and grounding of a fixed installation. In mobile installations, like a truck or a barrel of FIBC, the situation is different: the earthing can easily be forgotten. Sometimes, the earth connection gets neglected or does not function properly (a broken cable, dirt, paint, etc.). Therefore you need to constantly check the earthing and grounding with an earthing system.

Permanent earthing control

The StuvEx earthing system safely discharges the truck, barrel or FIBC and subsequently permanently monitors the earthing.

Resistive, capacitive and conductive earthing control

A resistive earthing system recognises the low conductive resistance of the object or fixed installation. It is meant for general use, like for barrels, carts and metal objects.  A resistive earthing system rules out human errors such as a missing or badly-functioning earth connection.

A capacitive system for earthing control additionally recognises that the connected object is a tanker truck.  The earthing control system will only function when connected to a tanker truck. This way, you are sure that you have positioned the clamp on a truck and not, for example, on the metal construction of the loading dock.

A conductive system for earthing control recognises the conductivity of a FIBC (Big Bag) type C and will only react to this application: Again, this way you know that the clamp is connected to the Big Bag and not to something else. By measuring the conductivity, the system can tell that it is indeed a type C Big Bag. If you are using two clamps, you can measure straight through the Big Bag to check whether it still meets the conductivity requirements (which is a frequent problem when re-using such Big Bags). This way, you can avoid using the wrong type of Big Bag.

A smart system for constant earthing control

The earthing system consists of a control unit, an earth clamp and a cable or cable reel.

The five functions of the control unit:

  • Checking whether the clamp connection functions properly
  • Recognising the object that needs earthing
  • Connecting the object to the earth. No sparks will be generated at the clamp since the control unit safely discharges all static electricity.
  • Potential free contact for releasing of the loading and unloading functions.
  • Status indication lights

The ‘active’ earth clamp

With active clamps, both clamp jaws are insulated, both from each other and from the clamp body. As long as the clamp is not connected to a conductive body, the circuit between the clamp jaws stays open. Once the clamp is connected, the circuit is closed.

The cable reel

With cable and an automatic roll-up mechanism.

ATEX certified earthing control

The system consists of a earthing control unit, an intrinsically safe measuring circuit and the circuit's components: a clamp, plug connection and cable reel. The earthing and grounding system is ATEX certified.

Depending on the type, the system can be set up in Ex zones 1, 2, 21, 22 or in an industrial environment IP 65.

StuvEx Earthing System - TES-01

When transferring material (liquid or powder) from a truck into a hopper or silo, static discharges can occur. This accumulation of energy can easily be sufficient to ignite a gas, vapour or dust cloud. The Truck Earthing System TES-01, developed by StuvEx, is a system of grounding and capacitive control specially adapted for vehicles transporting bulk.
