Fluid bed

A dynamic fluid bed, in most cases referred to as vibrating bed, moves during the process strongly back and forth with considerable amplitude. Frequently in these installations there is an explosion risk, which makes that explosion suppression could be necessary.

Standard protection of a vibrating bed leads to early breakdown due to material fatigue

The standard solution is to install one or more extinguishing agent bottles. On such a moving system however, this poses a big problem. Due to the additional mass the whole vibration pattern is disturbed, which imposes a complete adjustment of the whole system and probably a change of drive.

In addition, it leads to extreme high dynamic bending stresses in the junction of the bottles to the bed which leads in most cases to an early breakdown of the welded joints due to material fatigue.

Custom-made protection of a vibrating bed

StuvEx does not mount the extinguishing agent bottles on the bed itself, but suspends them from a separate portal construction, placed overthe bed.  This way, the bottle's opening is positioned just above the bed. In this spot a specially tailor-made bursting disc is built in the bed. The diameter of this bursting disc is such that the bottle's opening, in all positions of the bed, is exactly over this bursting disc.

In case of activation of the suppression system, a special telescopic spreader is ejected from the bottle, pierces the bursting disc and subsequently blows the extinguishing agent into the fluid bed. Of course the movement of the bed is, in case of activation, immediately stopped.
